"INFACON XI" held at the TAJ PALACE, New Delhi, India from February 18-21, 2007.

ELEVENTH INTERNATIONAL FERRO ALLOYS CONGRESS (INFACON XI)
TAJ PALACE, NEW DELHI, INDIA
18-21 FEBRUARY 2007

WELCOME ADDRESS BY MR. R. K. SARAF, CHAIRMAN,
ORGANISING COMMITTEE, INFACON XI.

I feel privileged and honoured to welcome all dignitaries and delegates to this prestigious Eleventh International Ferro Alloys Congress – INFACON XI.

INFACON conjures many things for many people. For the fortunate who have been actively involved with this event, it brings back memories of far away places, stimulating topics and above all, the people who have over the years, contributed to the success of the Congress, and who have added to the wealth of knowledge on all aspects of Ferro Alloys.

The International Ferro Alloys Congress (INFACON) has been held every three years since 1974, the latest being INFACON X held in Cape Town, South Africa in February 2004. The International Committee on Ferro Alloys (ICFA) decided that the Eleventh International Ferro Alloys Congress (INFACON XI) would be organized by The Indian Ferro Alloy Producers’ Association (IFAPA), India. It is indeed a great honour to host this prestigious meet for the first time in India.

The timing of the Congress is just right to cover the emerging scenario in the Ferro Alloy industry, faced with multi faceted operational and fiscal challenges.

The presence of the senior functionaries of the Government, distinguished guests and over 500 delegates from 36 countries across the globe, indicates the importance of the Theme of the Congress “Innovations in Ferro Alloy Industry”.

Sir, this is indeed a prestigious event for the Indian Ferro Alloys Industry and is evident of India’s emergence as a key player in the global market.
INFACON is being held for the third time in Asia – the first was held in Tokyo, Japan in 1983, the second in Beijing, China in 1998 and now in Delhi, India. I am happy to inform you that around 86 papers from 19 countries are being presented in INFACON XI.

As Chairman of INFACON XI, the Organising Committee and the Indian Ferro Alloy Producers’ Association, it gives me immense pleasure to inform all those present that our Association (IFAPA) was formed in 1961 with five Founder Members and has grown into a 51 Member efficient body, which truly represents the Industry, takes forward and adds value to the needs of Indian Ferro Alloy Producers.
